Happy New Year, and welcome to the most difficult time of the year. If you are having a hard time getting up in the morning, getting things done, keeping a smile on your face or generally just feeling out of sorts, welcome to the winter blues. January often arrives with an after-holiday gift of lethargy and melancholy. With the tree down the house looks bare. The thank you cards are all sent and there are no plans for the friendly get togethers so common in the month of December.
The kids are back in school and here you sit asking yourself "what next?” Careful now or you will descend even further into the dreaded "winter blues". Did you know? The winter time blues traditionally peak on January 24th, and continue on into mid to late February. Oh, my goodness! That is far too long to be down in the dumps. Give yourself a time limit, say a single day, to wallow in the blues and get them out of your system. Then move on, embrace the cold months and plan ahead for the spring time days to come.
With this new perspective, you can look at January as the month of new beginnings and let winter weave a spell of sparkling wonder: Cold, crisp days, long dark evenings, home cooked suppers and cozy weekends in front of the fire. This is the month to dream and plan for the year ahead. Embrace the season and chase away those blues with the following five easy steps.
